Tape # 1 Jack Spates, Counter Offense of Champions. Will help you to utilize techniques that will enable you to not just defend against leg attacks but score points every time your opponent attempts to take you down.
This system is guaranteed to make you a better wrestler and a strong counter offense is the quickest way to get better, faster.
Remember if you can’t be taken down, you are going to be pretty tough to beat!!!

Tape # 2 Chuck Barbee. Nearly 80% of the 1998 NCAA finalists were dominant mat wrestlers as well as being great on their feet.
Winning and Pinning Leg Wrestling will give you the tools to be a dominant mat wrestler and not only ride your opponents but turn them to their back as well. Leg riding can be the style that will change you from being just average to very good and very good to a State Champion!!!

like you would know who is coaching at OU. Maybe you think all those kids and the coaches in the room recruited themselves. College's are dropping wresling programs all over and with guys like you constantly making smart xss comments and doing nothing of value to help any program you can't blame them.

Next year's line up
Here's how I see it. 125 Patterson, 133 Maple, 141 Bailey, 149 Seth Vernon, 157 Kyle Detmer, 165 Caldwell, 174 Balfour, 184 Schmidtke/Weakley, 197 Weakley/Schmidtke, 285 Bach. Caldwell and Balfour may swap and its gonna be a DOGFIGHT between Lester, Vernon and DeAngelis at 149. Weights most likely to see a newcomer start are at 197 & Hwt.

I was glad to see Maple make it and I thought Patterson got a tough nonseed in Pataky. Bailey is definitely got a tough time with Humphries and Dake on his side, and Terry is unfortunate to have Metcalf on his side too. No seed for either Lane or Fernandez, so 285 is REALLY tough this year. The rest fell pretty muich where I thought they would.

Sorry coaches like spates get programs dropped. His salary and benefits are around $200,000 is he worth the expenditure? He can't win on hos own AND YOU KNOW IT! The only time OU can draw a crowd is Bedlam and most of the fans are Oklahoma State. Giving away free trips, TV's, credit cards, free pizza etc. With times being tough would you keep a program that drains the institution. When I see banners hung at the field house begging for the man to get canned raises a red flag?

What do you want? Why bring this up now when the entire team is going to the National Tournament? Spates has obviously done something right by getting the right coaching staff in along with the recruits, something you could never do successfully.

Sammie Henson and Michael Lightner have caused a major change in the way the OU wrestlers compete. They are much more aggressive for one thing. I watched Jared Patterson vs. Ladd Rupp last year with Rupp winning 2 of 3. I didn't know Patterson was good with legs, because he never got a chance to ride Rupp for more than about 10 seconds. Stan Abel predicts that Patterson is a future national champ. What I've noticed is that Jared can lose a match by a lopsided score, then never lose again to the same wrestler. Notte smoked him in an open tournament at OCU, then Patterson has won 3 times since then. He is apparently very good at making adjustments. Kendric Maple was the most impressive wrestler at the Kansas 5A&6A championships last year in my opinion. He is very capable of a first round upset against the 5 seed from Cal-Poly who I think beat Oliver. Maple has length and quickness, just needs to learn to wrestle a full match. Bailey has had a better season that I thought he would. However, he still doesn't shoot with authority too many times. It is like he still doesn't have the confidence needed in his skills. Terry has wrestled very solidly all year. However, he was using his tilts a lot more last year, I wonder why the change? Shane Vernon has wrestled well all season. He wins every other match with Erisman, which doesn't bode well for the NCAA since they may meet up in the 2nd round. He has an outside chance of placing. 157 is a really screwed up weight cla$$ because Dustin Schlatter defaulted in the Big 10, he isn't seeded as high as he should be. I wouldn't want to be on his side of the bracket, and Vernon is on that side. Tyler Caldwell is a beast on top! Needs to keep working on his takedown skills, but is capable of an upset at the NCAAs. Jeff James is mystifying. He puts on one of the greatest scrambling demonstrations you'll ever see. Then you'll see him do something sloppy to beat himself. I don't see him placing. Schmidtke looks great in a singlet until they blow the whistle. He has a long way to go before he becomes a competitive college wrestler in D-1. Lapotsky has had a very good season. He sometimes doesn't get his head in proper position to finish his shots. When he does he is a bulldozer, just ask Gelagaev. Fernnadez has a big heart. He lacks the length needed to excel. If everyone wrestled as hard and smart as he does, the OU team would contend for a top 5 finish. I think if OU wrestles to their seeds they'll be a top 10 team. Too bad this coaching change wasn't made 1-2 years ago. I don't think I'll have to be asking questions when a change in the coaching staff will be made by my friends from other wrestling powers. I still wish Jack would take another position at the university until he can retire. One more good young coach could really make a difference in that room.
