I think your facts are off. Missouri shouldn't be favored in 7 out of 10 matches. It may end up that way, or it may end up the opposite, but going in I think that statement is wrong especially in light of the first dual.

Sooners-Great job yesterday against Lehigh. Working together as a team is great to see. Colling did a good job against a returning national champ. Almost got him! Bubby got hit in a five pointer early and fought back tough but in the end a little too much to overcome. Patterson and Maple were dominant, Keller had a great pin and the Lester's wrestled to their capabilities. Nice to see the team respond. Boomer Sooner!

The difference in ability between say a number 8 wrestler and number 14 wresstler in negligible. Those rankings are in a constant flux. They give a good indication who the top 20 wrestlers are, and they give a good indication who the very top wrestlers are, but besides that they don't mean much.

I'm open to hearing how to say who the favorite is at each weight other than using rankings. It is a generally good indicator, although I can see an argument at 125 where you could favor Patterson over Waters, despite Waters being ranked at least 4 spots higher in every poll. There are several services you can use of course, and the wrestlers from the two schools are close enough at several weights that one would have slightly different favorites. However, as a general matter, rankings are an easy way to say who is favored. From matches actually wrestled in the first dual, only 184 is ranked different than who won.
